During your stay in Bukit Lawang, you can join several 1-day optional activities, such as hikes of varies lengths through Gunung Leuser National Park and tubing (floating down the river on a raft made of tires). These activities can be pre-arranged through Indotracks or you can book it yourself on the spot.  

*Jungle trek, 3 hours, through Gunung Leuser National Park, including a visit to the orangutan feeding platform.
Together with a local guide you walk to the entrance of Gunung Leuser National Park in the morning. A small boat will transfer you across the Bohorok-river. From there, a steep climb will bring you to the orangutan feeding platform. It is located several hundred meters inside the park. Every day, orangutans that are part of the rehabilitation program are fed a diet of bananas and milk here. After feeding time, the rainforest-trek will start. Depending on weather conditions it can be a tough hike: the trail passes through thick jungle, it climbs and descends several times and it can be slippery in rainy conditions. Along the way you will hear a lot of jungle sounds, like the chirping of cicadas, the call of the gibbon or the flight of the hornbill. You might be able to spot several monkey species. Highlight of course is an encounter with a (semi) wild orangutan. Keep in mind: this is wild nature and nothing can be guaranteed. The trek finishes at your hotel.  

*Jungle trek, 6 hours, through Gunung Leuser National Park, including a visit to the orangutan feeding platform.
This is pretty much the same program as the 3-hour hike, the difference being that you will penetrate the rainforest much deeper and have a more thorough experience of nature. It will be the same type of trail, but overall the trek will be more strenuous because of the amount of time that you walk. A lunch box is included.  

*Tubing, 20 minutes
Float down the river with a local guide, on a raft made of tires tied together. The short trip will take around 20 minutes and is a fun way to get wet! Tubing can be combined with a jungle trek.  

*Tubing, 1,5 hours
This longer tubing trip of around 1,5 hours includes rapids and quiet parts. After the trip, you will return to your hotel by public transport. This trip can also be combined with jungle treks.
