In 2013 we, Nettert Smit and Emile Leushuis, decided to start Indotracks: an internet-based travel agency specialized in tailor-made tours to Indonesia. Considering our many years of experience in Indonesia (together more than 30 years) and our extensive personal network in the tourism industry of this country, we figured it was the right time to join forces and start a new, modern and exciting travel agency.
Central to Indotracks is our wish to create individual tours that will really add value to your holiday in Indonesia. We stimulate our customers to be very much involved, together with us, in creating their individualized tour-program in Indonesia. It is possible to make some arrangements yourself and have us facilitate other parts of your holiday, or alternatively you can ask us to arrange the whole itinerary: anything is possible. Indotracks works together with an extensive network of local agents, which we have personally known for years. This means direct communication and a lot of attention to detail and personal wishes.
Indotracks is an internet-based travel agency. All communication and arrangements will be done through the internet. In this way we have minor overhead costs, which allows us to offer competitive prices. Besides that, each year we both spend a considerable amount of time traveling through Indonesia in order to keep up to date about local circumstances and also to stay in contact with our local partner agents.
After graduating in Geography, Emile Leushuis set out for Indonesia in 1991 to start working as a tourleader for a Dutch travel agent. Since then, he has worked for several travel agencies, both on the road as tourleader (in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries) and also at the office in the Netherlands, creating individualized tours to Indonesia. During those years he spent a lot of time in Indonesia and as a result has thorough knowledge of the country and its people, the language and the local culture.
Emile’s personal interest is (colonial) heritage cities in Indonesia and he publishes and gives lectures about this. In 2011 he published the Gids historische stadswandeling Indonesië (Guide to historical cities tours Indonesia), followed by an Indonesian translation in 2014. The book contains elaborate heritage trails in several historical cities in Indonesia.
After working several years for the Dutch Public Radio Broadcast Company, in 1999 Nettert Smit decided to pack his bags for a long trip to Asia. After more than a year of wandering through several Asian countries, he finally arrived in Indonesia. And he never wanted to leave again. Starting from 2001, Nettert has worked long periods of time as tourleader in Indonesia for Dutch travel agents. Besides Indonesia, he also has a lot of working experience in other Asian countries and in the Middle East. His work as a journalist got sidetracked a bit, but every now and then he still freelances for the Dutch Public Radio Broadcast Company. Currently he spends long periods of time in Indonesia each year.
What still mesmerizes both of us every day in Indonesia is the authenticity of its culture, the diversity of its people and the wildness of its nature. Every single island and every single region of Indonesia is totally different from the other and we will probably never be finished exploring this vast country. Through Indotracks we are hoping to share our fascination for Indonesia with our customers. Are you up for that challenge?
