TRAIN

Traveling by train through Indonesia is mostly possible on Java. There are some train tracks on Sumatra, but these are less suitable for travelers.

The best part of travelling by train is that long distances can be covered relatively fast and that it is less exhausting than traveling by car. Besides that, Java offers spectacular train rides with some amazing scenery along the way. Most existing railway stations and bridges were constructed during colonial times, which adds some extra value to traveling by train.

On the theme page TRAIN JOURNEYS you will find individual programs for train journeys over Java. Indotracks can also arrange individual tickets for most train routes on Java, for example to connect one individual tour program with another. Train tickets can be ordered at the earliest 3 months in advance. You have a choice of Executive Class (air-conditioned and reclining seats) or Business Class (air-conditioning or fan, no reclining seats). In most trains you can order food and drinks on the train. Taking a night train is not very comfortable in Indonesia, since there are no sleeping wagons.

Prices for train tickets are higher during weekends and national holidays. Please keep in mind that ticket prices can change without notice. If there happens to be a significant price increase as compared with the originally budgeted price in your itinerary, we will have to pass the price difference on to you. For train tickets that are booked and paid for, cancellation fees are always 100%. When booking train tickets, passport names and numbers are needed.
